Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer

It would be an understatement to say that Chase likes Alabama football. When his team was selected to go to the National Championship, he had seriously considered making the trip - just days before Lila's due date. When ticket prices went to astronomical levels, he resigned the idea of traveling to the game. However, he made it very clear that under no circumstances would he be watching the National Championship game on the 19 inch standard definition TV at the hospital. No sir.  He had even had this discussion with my doctor after she suggested the game day as a possible induction date. She saw the humor in his request and promised to have Lila here before the big game. Lila must have also heard her Dad's request, because we brought her home 2 days before the big game. She watched for as long as she could keep her eyes open, swaddled in her houndstooth to show her support. She must have been a good luck charm, because they took home the title. Roll Tide!

First Visit to the Doctor

When Lila was 4 days old, she had her first visit at the Pediatrician's office. For the Madison locals, we see Dr. Lawley at Cornerstone Pediatrics. We love her, and Lila does too!

For the record, we actually showered and made it to the early morning appointment early....even after I nursed her in the car in the parking lot. The first visit was pretty uneventful. Lila, who typically screamed when she was naked, was calm and quiet for the whole exam - even when laying on the cold scales to get her measurements.

Because she had an elevated level of jaundice, we had to take her to the lab next door to have her heel pricked and blood taken. Only one of us could go back with her, and when I heard the other screaming babies, I nominated Chase to take her. I waited in the lobby to hear her scream......but there was only silence. The nurse was amazed. Lila was alert but never cried. She received a Looney Tunes band aid for her good behavior. We were so proud of her, we decided we'd head to Chik-fil-a for lunch (it's one of her favorites). I'd say our first 'outing' as a family of 3 was a success.

The First 3 Days

Our first three days as a family of three were short on sleep but full on love. So many people shared in our excitement of Lila's arrival, the hospital food was better than I had expected, and we were welcomed home with loads of amazing food.

A few events from the first days....

While the nurses were moving me to a new room, Chase was able to go into the nursery to help give Lila her first bath.

I wish we had snapped a picture of all of the visitors that came to meet Lila, but we managed to get quite a few....

Despite his fears, Chase survived his nights on the terrible pull out sofa bed without contracting some weird hospital disease, we were 'treated' to a Celebration Dinner (complete with sparkling grape juice), Lila applied for her Social Security number and Birth Certificate, and before we knew it we were being released to go home.  Chase was so anxious to leave that he had everything packed and in the car in a matter of minutes.....even the things I still needed to use! We did manage to snap a couple pictures of Lila while we were waiting on the nurse to come escort us out....

And Along Came Lila...

Our little Lila Tate is here! I'm so very, very behind on posting so I promise to catch up in the next few days.

Perception

To my sweet Lila Tate,

We made it! You listened to your mama and you weren't a Christmas baby.  You still came home with lots of loot - I can only imagine Christmas next year!

Now you can come anytime you please (preferably before you are a 9 pound peanut). For posterity's sake, and in case I should someday forget how large I was.........

.....This is how others see you......

.......And this is how your daddy loves to see you - he finds it quite humorous.
