To the Pediatricians Office We Go....

Lila had her second visit to the doctor on January 25th. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces (my birth weight). Chase wasn't able to go for work reasons, but my Mom was gracious to accompany me to the Pediatricians office so I didn't have to tote all of our belongings and Lila.

Because of her history with elevated PKU levels, they had to prick her heel again and take several samples. This time she was NOT happy about it. She was also hungry, so they let me feed her while we waited to see the Doctor. I should also mention that our Doctor had injured her ankle and was on crutches. Instead of our doctor going from room to room, the nurses were bringing each patient to one room where she was. That would have been fine if I hadn't stood up and discovered that Lila's heel was now bleeding out of the band-aid and onto both of us. The whole situation was hilarious. She was upset because she wanted to continue to eat, the nurse was wiping blood off of my hands, and I think at some point a few nurses saw my boob. Despite those moments of chaos, the actual exam went well. (Unfortunately I did not have the presence of mind at that point to take any pictures of this visit.)

We went back again for her 2 month check-up this week, and she's weighing in at 10 pounds 14 ounces. She's grown to 23.5 inches, and has been in the 25th to 50th percentile since birth. It's so funny to hear the doctors say that since there were so many concerns in the latter part of my pregnancy about her being such a big baby. No heel prick at this visit, but she did have to get a shot in each thigh and one oral vaccine. I had been dreading this visit, and she did better than I thought. As soon as the first needle went in I saw her mouth open as wide as it possibly could. Her face began to turn red and she just held her breath for several seconds. Eventually she let out a pretty loud scream, but by then it was over and I was able to pick her up and comfort her. I do NOT look forward to more vaccines. She was back to her happy self in a few minutes and I snapped this picture while putting her clothes back on. Poor baby.

Sweet Sleep

She gets it from her mother.
And I get it from my mother.
We girls love to sleep, and it takes us a while to wake up.
One afternoon when Mom and I were out running errands, I needed to wake Lila up to feed her.
She had other plans.

I had to undress her, sing, and
bounce her around to get her to wake up.
And when she did wake up, this is the face she gave me.

Can you blame her?

Valentines Day

This year we opted to fore-go the romantic Valentine's Day dinner and have a little date night with our tater tot. Chase had been hoping to visit the newly opened Panda Express, and every time we had tried to go it hadn't worked out. Lila and I decided to treat him to a 'gourmet' Chinese dinner. She slept through the whole thing, as seen below.

After dinner (the place was packed and overflowing btw...on Valentines Day!) we did a little shopping. Lila had her eye on a particular hot pink pig at Lifeway, and Chase always says 'Yes' to Lila. Here she is demonstrating the look she gives her Daddy when she wants something.

G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S

Lila's a high maintenance kind of girl. Not only does she require the latest in designer children's wear, she also insists on nothing but the best for her delicate skin. She wouldn't let a little jaundice ruin her newborn pictures. A woman of action, she ordered herself a lighted UV bed (which we referred to as her 'tanning bed'.) She had to sleep on the light for 3 days. Every morning a nurse would come to our house and prick her little heel to test her levels and weigh her. To speed up the recovery process, it was my job to nurse her as often as she wanted, which made for an exhausting 3 days. We were so excited to finally see the light leave our house. We missed snuggling with our tater tot.
